Lynette Zelis

Noteable Notes Owner & Piano Instructor

Lynette Zelis

Lynette Zelis, owner of Noteable Notes Music Academy, loves teaching piano and learning new music.  She is a frequent performer in the Chicago area playing in chamber ensembles and as a soloist.  She teaches private piano lessons, and maintains studios for 24 other music teachers.  She is also an adjuct Professor at Wheaton College, currently teaching the Piano Pedagogy Course to Piano Performance Majors.

 

In 2019,Lynette was honored at the music teachers national conference in Spokane, WA as the Illinois State Fellow of the year. 


She is the past President of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association, served as the Director for the East Central Division of MTNA - the Music Teacher's National Association - which includes Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan & Indiana.  Lynette has been teaching piano in Wheaton since 1987.

 

Lynette is permanently certified by the ISMTA & the MTNA.  She is a frequent judge at numerous piano competitions and piano festivals.

 

She was one of only five teachers in the country to win the 2001 Group Piano Teachers Award from the Music Teachers National Association and the National Piano Foundation.

 

Lynette is a member of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association where she has served as the Achievement in Music  (AIM) State Repertoire Chair, AIM Performance Chair, vice president and treasurer for the West Suburban Chapter.  Awarded Member of the Year for ISMTA in 2002.  Lynette was president of the West Suburban Illinois State Music Teachers Association from 2009- 2011.

 

Lynette continues to write new music reviews for the American Music Teacher magazine. 

 

Lynette is a member of the Illinois Music Association - IMA - where she judges at the annual State Olympic competition and participates in the yearly scholarship play-a-thon.  Many of her students have won scholarship monies for college music study.

 

Lynette received her bachelor of music degree from Hope College, MI, in piano performance and pedagogy.  She went on to Northern Illinois University to study with Donald Walker, earning a Masters of Music and a Masters of Arts degree in piano  performance and pedagogy.


This year Noteable Notes and Lynette Zelis was named an education partner with Steinway and Sons enabling our students to play on beautiful Steinway pianos at their lessons!
