Richard Sladek

Richard Sladek encourages students to grow and evolve by tailoring instruction to their specific needs, while making it an enjoyable and pleasurable process. Teaching emphasis is on technique, sight-reading, and memorization skills while learning to play music expressively.

Mr. Sladek holds a bachelor’s degree in Piano/Piano Pedagogy from the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. He has also been the recipient of several awards including those from the Chicago Musical Arts Club, and the Grace Welsh National Piano Competition.

Professionally, Mr. Sladek has performed in nearly every kind of venue imaginable during his career.He has served as staff accompanist for Columbia College, and the Second City National Touring Company. He has also played for the Southwest Symphony Orchestra and the Salt Creek Ballet.In musical theater, Mr. Sladek has played keyboards for numerous productions, most notably at the Shubert Theatre, Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre, Theater at the Center, Apple Tree and Circle Theaters, the Theatre of Western Springs, and the Candlelight Dinner Playhouse.

As musical director/composer for 16 years with the nationally acclaimed education theater troupe Wavelength, he performed for over 100,000 educators in North America and abroad.Presently Mr. Sladek serves as accompanist for the First Christian Church of Downers Grove, the Sounds Good choir ensembles in Hinsdale, Wheaton, and Oak Park, and also plays keyboard as the fifth member of America’s longest running Beatles tribute band, American English.When not performing, Mr. Sladek privately coaches and encourages aspiring pianists.Mr. Sladek has also recorded three solo piano CDs encompassing classical, jazz and ragtime
